James Hogan Dies

Sad to see him go... James Hogan was a great Science Fiction writer (regardless of what crazy things he beleived in). If you haven't had a chance to read his book "Inherit the Stars", definitely check him out.  Its a murder mystery on the Moon.  A 50,000 year old dead astronaut is found on the moon...  A real page turner!

Raw Footage of Hudson River Miracle

The US Coast Guard has just released this raw footage of US Airways Flight 1549 crash landing into the Hudson River. The Airbus A320 had 155 passengers on board. My hats off to both the Pilot for his coolness under pressure and the Ferry Boat Captains who rushed to the scene in as little as three minutes.

50s Pinup Model Bettie Page Dead at 85

It is indeed a sad day... Legendary pinup queen Bettie Page died of pneumonia at the age of 85 in a Los Angeles, California, hospital Thursday, a week after suffering a heart attack, according to her agent. "She captured the imagination of a generation of men and women with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality," said agent Mark Roesler in a written statement. "She is the embodiment of beauty." Page, said to be one of the most photographed people of the past century, became a recluse in recent decades. Yet, her images continued to be used around the world to market Bettie Page action figures, clothing lines and other merchandise. The Web site, BettiePage.com, logs about 20 million hits a month, Roesler said. A TVGuide.com poll recently placed Bettie Page as the "ultimate sex goddess," outscoring others such as Marilyn Monroe.

Armed robbers pulled off one of the world's biggest jewellery heists at a famed Paris store, making off with 85 million euros (107 million dollars) in diamonds and valuables, officials said Friday. A gang of four thieves -- two of them disguised as women -- on Thursday stole nearly all the jewels on display at the Harry Winston boutique just off the Champs-Elysees avenue, which attracts a wealthy international clientele.

Ex-NFL Player Donates Super Bowl Ring

Je'Rod Cherry is giving away his Super Bowl ring. The former NFL safety who won three rings as a member of the New England Patriots is raffling off his 2001 Super Bowl ring to benefit Asia's Hope, a non-denominational initiative that mobilizes Western churches to help Asia's poor.

Cherry told The Cleveland Plain Dealer that he had a hard time deciding which of his three Super Bowl rings to give away. He eventually settled on his first ring, because "It says I'm serious about this cause and it also reflects my faith, that I'm going to give up my best, what I care about the most. The other two I don't wear."

The 14-karat white gold ring with 142 diamonds as well as garnets and sapphires in the Patriots logo is reportedly worth close to $54,000. For a mere $10 (tickets are $2 each with a minimum purchase of five through netraffle.org), anyone can take a chance to own this gaudy bauble.

Trackers Say They Found 'Bigfoot' Corpse

Three "Bigfoot" seekers, two from Georgia and one from California, claimed they have proof that they have found the dead body of the elusive creature in the wilds of Georgia. They intend to present DNA evidence to prove the carcass is that of a bigfoot on Friday at a news conference.

I personally do believe in Bigfoot and if this turns out to be true this would be a great scientific discovery.

Drink American!

Coors, Miller, and now Anheuser-Busch are owned by foriegn companies; Pabst Brewing, maker of Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) is now the largest American owned brewery in the country. Here's a list of the top ten American Owned breweries. I'm also proud to say that Spoetzl Brewing (which brews a personal favorite of mine Shiner Bock) is number 7 on the list. Looks like I'm going to have to start picking up a case of PBR every now and then to support our American owned breweries.

The Mafia's Ten Commandments

The Mafia's Ten Commandments have been found after police arrested a top Godfather in Sicily. Under the secret Cosa Nostra code of conduct, the so-called "men of honour" must avoid bars, other gangsters' wives and girlfriends and be on time. The list of rules emerged from documents seized after the arrest of Salvatore Lo Piccolo, 65, at a secret mob meeting in Palermo, along with his son Sandro, 32, and two other godfathers.

The 10 'Mafiosi' commandments are:

1. No one can present himself directly to another of our friends. There must be a third person to do it.
2. Never look at the wives of friends.
3. Never be seen with cops.
4. Don't go to pubs and clubs.
5. Always be available for Cosa Nostra, even if your wife's about to give birth.
6. Appointments must be respected.
7. Wives must be treated with respect.
8. When asked for any information, the answer must be the truth.
9. Money cannot be appropriated if it belongs to others or to other families.
10. People who can't be part of Cosa Nostra are anyone with a close relative in the police, with a two-timing relative in the family, anyone who behaves badly and doesn't hold to moral values.

In this Texas farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO. Several dozen people — including a pilot, county constable and business owners — insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

FBI Reopens 1971 D.B. Cooper Case

On a cold November night 36 years ago, in the driving wind and rain, somewhere between southern Washington state and just north of Portland, Oregon, a man calling himself Dan Cooper parachuted out of a plane he’d just hijacked clutching a bag filled with $200,000 in stolen cash. Who was Cooper? Did he survive the jump? And what happened to the loot, only a small part of which has ever surfaced? The FBI is reopening the case in hopes it will jog someone's memory.

BluePolitix

For a long time, I really tried not to post any political blog entrys for the basic reason that LLCoolDave, isn't meant for that serious a subject. LLCoolDave was primarily my outlet for humor, creativity and things that interest me. Occasionally I would post a political entry but I really didn't like doing it. Well now I have an entire separate blog for politics, my philosopy and any thing else that I think warrants attention. BluePolitx, is the name of my new political blog. It's definitely left of center, hence the name... Check it out, I welcome calm rational debate and discussion on political topics.
